The Winter Blues
Ahh…winter. Good old rain (or snow depending on your location), winds, cold weather and runny noses. Cold and flu season has officially begun in our neck of the woods. Made even more stressful this year thanks to the ongoing Covid concerns.
So what can we do to help our immune systems kick cold and flu symptoms out the door? Besides frequent hand washing, there are a few foods that may help your body fight off germs.
Immune Boosting Tips
The best way to hep your body’s immunity work at peak form is to try and…
- maintain a well balanced diet
- get enough sleep
- drink water
- work daily activity into your lifestyle
- try to keep stress levels down
In addition to the above Mediterranean Diet Diet & Lifestyle tips, there are also certain foods that may help with boosting your body’s immunity.
Immune Boosting Foods
We recently shared more detail about an Immune Boosting Diet and just want to stress again that while there are foods that may help boost your immunity, there is no single, magic ingredient.
If we feel a bit under the weather or notice an increase in the amounts of cold symptoms in the people around us, we try to increase our intake of vitamin c, ginger, turmeric, leafy greens, citrus, and omega 3’s.
The following Winter Citrus Cold Busting Smoothie is one of our favorites!
Cold Busting Smoothie – Winter Favorite
A smoothie is a great way to pack in a lot of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and cold busting ingredients into a single glass.
This smoothie is a winter favorite of ours because it uses December Seasonal Produce like citrus and pomegranate. Both of which offer up an extra dose of Vitamin C and antioxidants that can help fight off colds and lesson the severity or duration of symptoms.
Adding Memore to Smoothies
It also features Memore, which is our favorite smoothie addition! It’s a daily greens powder that uses real ingredients (like blueberries, spinach, flaxseed, turmeric and ginger) that are designed to improve brain health in addition to providing a variety of vitamins and minerals. The spinach and blueberries in this smoothie specifically offer additional antioxidants that may aid the body in fighting off cold and flu germs.
