Smoothies are a great way to combine different ingredients into one delicious drink. This Brain Boosting Green Smoothie features ingredients like almond butter, spinach, frozen fruit, and matcha to create a great tasting smoothie that helps your brain health at the same time.

Boosting Brain Health

We are HUGE believers in the notion that what you eat plays a role in all aspects of your health – the way you look, feel, and function.

Focusing on eating a variety of foods, mostly fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds while keeping saturated fat and added sugars at minimal levels is a great way to keep your body healthy, happy and thriving. This also just so happens to be the guidelines for the Mediterranean diet…no coincidence there.

This brain boosting green smoothie is a great example of how great tasting ingredients can come together for a delicious beverage that also is packed with not only brain boosting nutrients but a host a vitamins and minerals that your body need for different functions.

Spinach

We tossed in a handful of spinach into this smoothie because we almost always have a bag in our fridge. Also, the more greens the better. Dark green leafy vegetables are a good source of iron, magnesium and fiber.

Fun factthe iron in spinach (and other plant foods) is called non-heme iron and in order for the body to absorb this type of iron you should pair with a source of vitamin c. In this case of this smoothie, we added strawberries which contain Vitamin C to help the iron absorption.

Almond Butter

Not only does this add a delicious, creamy flavor to the smoothie but the nuts are a great source of heart healthy fats and a bit of protein. The fats will help keep you full longer.

Matcha Powder

Matcha is a type of tea that comes in powder form and delivers an amazing amount of antioxidants that may help with disease prevention, memory and brain health.

Frozen Fruit

I love adding frozen fruit to smoothies because it alleviates the need for ice and makes thick, creamy texture smoothies. The banana offers potassium and the strawberries are a good source of fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp almond butter
  • 2 scoops memore
  • 1 tbsp matcha powder
  • 1 frozen banana, peeled
  • 1/3 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 handful spinach

Instructions

  • Place all the ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth.
