Our Secret to Thick and Creamy Smoothies
My kids love smoothies that are so thick and creamy that they think they are made with ice cream.
My secret to getting that consistency – frozen bananas. They blend up and add such great creamy texture you don’t need much extra ice or yogurt to get it nice and thick.
Adding Dates to Smoothies
Date Smoothies are all the rage these days. They are naturally sweet, so they offer a sweetness to smoothies without having to add excess added sugars. They also are rich in flavor and can often give a recipe a chocolate taste.
Since sugar isn’t added to dates (it occurs naturally), they aren’t considered an “added sugar”. Which is great considering we should all be limiting the amount of added sugars in diets to prevent chronic disease and inflammation. Plus, in addition to sweetness, dates offer vitamins and minerals…making them a better choice than table sugar (which doesn’t offer any nutrients).
Dates are also nutrient rich and have an impressive amount of antioxidants. They include key vitamins and minerals like B vitamins, vitamin K, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and manganese.
You know we love talking about Dietary Fiber and dates are a good source. Just two dates contain 3 grams of fiber!
