I remember my mom hosting a lot of dinners at our house while I was growing up. She is the quintessential host…beautiful centerpieces, fun themes, and great food. My favorite part of the dinner parties was the dessert course once the meal was finished. My mom would bring out a freshly baked cake or other homemade dessert and my mouth would start to water. The cake was almost always brought to the table on a cake stand and served on dessert plates.
Now that I’m an adult, I also love having people over for dinner. While I try to emulate my mom’s dinner parties, I never have the same pizzaz during dessert that my mom did. I don’t think I even own dessert plates and I’m not much of a baker. Therefore, I usually rely on buying a dessert at the store, but it just isn’t the same as having something homemade.
After a lot of trial and error, I finally have a go-to dessert in my arsenal. I stumbled across this simple dessert on complete accident. We recently had friends over for dinner but I completely forgot to pick up an after dinner treat. Consequently, I had to rely on what was in our fridge, which wasn’t a lot to work with.
Thankfully, we had a few good ingredients stocked that I was able to work with in a pinch. I simply took some greek yogurt, stirred in a bit of crunchy almond butter and topped it off with some fresh strawberries. Add a swirl of almond butter on top and viola…an elegant but simple dessert.
I served mine in these cute little plastic cups that I had on hand…probably given to me by my mom. Therefore, no dessert plates needed! A great little tip for an extra bit of “wow” – heat a bit of the almond butter up in the microwave and then you can drizzle it over the top of each dish.
The best part is, this dessert makes a great go-to snack! It’s so simple to make and you can use any fruit you have on hand. I’ve made it with strawberries, raspberries and even sliced bananas. The greek yogurt keeps it light and refreshing rather than having a heavier dessert following a meal.
Enjoy!
