Knowing what’s in season can save you money at the store but also provide fruits and veggies that are at their peak flavor. Sharing this month’s Seasonal Produce Guide, along with recipe ideas that use those February seasonal foods.

Taste the Rainbow

Wouldn’t it be cool if the “taste the rainbow” slogan was used for fruits and vegetables instead of colorful candy?

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve probably eaten my entire body weight in candy over the years (major sweet tooth). It’s such a damn good slogan. Similar to  “eat the rainbow” for fresh produce, but  with a better ring.

Whatever the slogan may be, the message is the still the same. Eating fruits and vegetables from an array of different colors is a great way to ensure you are getting key nutrients from food. Each color offers their own health benefits, so eating the rainbow gives you the whole combo.

We’ve been doing better in my family at eating more vegetables, but I wanted to take it one step further.

In our on-going effort to cut back our grocery bill while simultaneously eating a colorful array of fruits and vegetables, I’ve been relying on seasonal produce guides. Seasonal produce guides let you know which fruits and vegetables are in their peak season during the year.
