I finally bought an Instant Pot and am sharing some of my favorite instant pot recipes and what I’ve learned so far about this amazing kitchen gadget.
I Finally Bought an Instant Pot
So I finally bit the bullet and bought myself an Instant Pot. I know, I’m like 3 years late to the game, as usual. It’s the same with avocado toast and embracing cauliflower everything. I like to make sure that trends are really here to stay before I dip my toe into the water.
Instant Pot Cookbooks to the Rescue
So after getting my Instant Pot, I dived right in, thanks in part to the I Love My Instant Pot – Anti-Inflammatory Diet Recipe Book from Happy, Healthy Mama that I received a copy of in the mail. I have made about 5 recipes from this cookbook so far and cannot recommend this book enough! The recipes are made with simple ingredients and are very flavorful. I highly recommend the Butternut Squash Apple Soup recipe, it’s delicious!
I’m not sure why I have been so intimated but the Instant Pot kind of scared me at first. I think it was because of the pressure cooker function…I had zero experience with that.
Once I played around with the Instant Pot, my fear disappeared and I really fell in love with all that it can do. I love that things cook much faster than traditional methods, plus the sauté function means you an brown something before setting the pressure cooker timer and having dinner ready whenever you want.
My Instant Pot Tips
I’ve had my Instant Pot for a little over a month now and have probably made about 10 different recipes.
I have learned a few newbie tips that I thought might be helpful to share with anyone else that is new to the pressure cooker game.
- The cook time on most recipes doesn’t include the time it takes for the Instant Pot to come to pressure. Sometimes this can be up to 15 additional minutes before it even starts cooking
- The cook time on most recipes also doesn’t include the time it takes for the Instant Pot to automatically depressurize. You can manually release the steam yourself but if you have it set to auto it can take up to 15-20 minutes to depressurize
- If you have the Instant Pot set to “keep warm” I don’t think that it will automatically depressurize until you turn off this function. I believe this is so that you can set the pressure cooker while you are away and have it ready and warm for a certain time.
