Brain Health

According to Alzheimer’s Disease International, every 3 seconds someone in the world develops dementia. As someone that worked in a retirement and skilled nursing facility for over 10 years, I’ve seen first hand how awful dementia and Alzheimer’s disease can be for all those involved.

We are working on a detailed post that dives further into dementia but in the meantime, there are things we can all do to help decrease our risk. The Mayo Clinic shared 5 Tips to Keep Your Brain Healthy and one of the ways listed – Eat A Mediterranean Diet. Yay!

The Mediterranean Diet focuses on incorporating more of the following into your meals –

  • Plant Based Foods (fruits, veggies, olive oil, nuts, seeds, beans and legumes)
  • Whole Grains
  • Fatty Fish for Omega 3’s
  • Healthy Fat
  • Decreasing Saturated Fat and Added Sugars

According to the National Institutes of Health, The Mediterranean diet may slow the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

Foods for Better Brain Health

While there are no magic foods that cure all, there are certain ingredients that are beings studied and are believed to help improve brain health.

The Harvard Health Publishing Harvard Medical School reports that there are 5 Foods Linked to Better Brain Health. These foods include –

  • Dark Green Leafy Vegetables
