We developed this fall cheese board as the perfect way to celebrate the changing of the season. Crispy and tart apples, hearty pecans, crisp raisin and rosemary crackers and sharp cheddar cheese all blend together to create a perfect grazing board.

We are no strangers to cheese boards around here at The Domestic Dietitian. In fact, many of us consider it one of our favorite types of meals. A little bit of this, a little bit of that. The perfect combination of salty, sweet, crisp and crunchy.

Tips for Making The Perfect Fall Cheese Board

The key to any good board is to use seasonal ingredients to highlight the flavors of the season. You can’t go wrong with cheese boards in our opinion, so use whatever ingredients you prefer. Some of our recommendations include –

Seasonal Fruit

Including seasonal fruit is a great way to take a standard cheese board to fall inspired in minutes.

  • Crisp apples
  • Dried cranberries, currants, golden raisins or apricots
  • Thinly sliced pear
  • Pomegranate seeds
  • Figs

Assorted Cheeses

It’s our suggestion to include at least two types of cheese. We prefer one soft, spreadable cheese (like brie or goat cheese) and one sliced. Some other tips include –

  • Pre-slicing your cheese ensures no none has to stand around using a tiny knife to cut off chunks of cheese
  • Thinly sliced cheese should easily fit on your cracker or bread surface
  • If you choose a strong cheese try to pair it with one that’s more mellow

Cracker Selection

Fall inspired cheese boards make me want to reach for heartier crackers and crisps. Instead of your standard water crackers, consider –

  • Flavored Rosemary & Raisin crisps or crackers with Figs baked in give a fall flair
  • Crispy bread slices are a great addition
  • Consider an assortment of cracker types, breadsticks or pita chips for different flavors and textures

Additional Elements

The rest are simply little extra touches for flavor, texture, and color.

  • Nuts – pecans, walnuts, almonds, or pistachios all add crunch
  • Honey for drizzling across the top of cheese covered crackers or sliced fruit
  • Olives for salty bites
  • Dark chocolate for a bit of sweet
