The Chaos that is Christmas
I’m hosting Christmas Eve dinner at my house this year with both sides of the family and I am equal parts nervous and excited!
I love the chaos that comes with having friends and family over for the holidays. It’s loud and crazy, but always full of cheer and laughter. We’re trying to keep the menu simple this year but I can’t help but try and jazz up a few things with a dash of holiday spirit.
Festive Cocktails
One thing that I really love is making a fun, festive cocktail.
For thanksgiving, I made this amazing Apple Cider Mulled Wine that was a huge hit.
For Christmas, I wanted to create something that was relatively simple to pull together (since I’ll be focused on making dinner) but that was still fun.
Holiday Prosecco Punch
This cocktail features sparkling wine that gets a little fancy factor from pear nectar and cranberry juice. It’s light and bubbly and a beautiful red hue that just radiates Christmas.
Many grocery stores sell pear nectar in the juice aisle. I’ve found both Kern’s Pear Nectar at Safeway, Ralph’s and Walmart or some stores have their own store brand.
If you cannot find pear nectar, I’ve also made this using the juice from a can of sliced pears. Just be sure to use the kind that is packed in 100% pear juice, not heavy syrup.
Since this cocktail features sparkling wine, I wouldn’t make it in advance since you’ll lose the bubble factor. However, it comes together really quickly so you should have no problem making it when guests arrive.
Holiday Prosecco Punch
Ingredients
- 1 bottle Prosecco (sparkling wine) Champagne would also work
- 1 cup Cranberry Juice
- 1.5 cups Pear Nectar
Instructions
- In a large pitcher, combine the Prosecco, Pear Nectar and Cranberry Juice
- Garnish with sliced, fresh pear and whole cranberries if desired
