No Clue How to Cut a Mango
A few weeks ago, I made this Mango Black Bean Salad recipe from iFOODreal (ps it’s delicious, highly recommend!). It was then that I discovered I had no idea how to properly chop up a mango.
I’ve eaten a lot of mango but I guess I never had to prepare a fresh one myself. Time Saving Tip – frozen mango is delicious and works great in salads and recipes!
So instead of being content with my hack job, I took to the internet to learn how to properly cut one.

I quickly learned that there are multiple ways to cut a mango. You can cube, dice, and slice to your heart’s content.
After watching and trying out multiple ways, I found this video the most helpful –

Step by Step Instruction
I found the easiest is to dice. These are the steps I follow for cutting a mango –
- Remove skin with a vegetable peeler or small knife
- Stand mango up, find the center and then move your hand 1/2 an inch to the right
- Cut straight down to slice off chunk of mango
- Repeat with the left side (find center, move 1/2 inch and slice straight down)
- Take the two cut sides (not then center area with the pit) and cut into long slices, turn and cut into small dices
Once you get the hang of it, it’s much easier than I originally thought.
