Have you ever had garlic that’s been roasted in the oven? It is so flavorful and delicious! You can eat it right out of the oven, all on it’s own. Or you can add it to so many dishes to create a wonderful flavor.

It’s so simple to make at home.

Steps To Make Oven Roasted Garlic

Since it takes some time to roast the garlic, I like to make a big batch at one time. Then I store the extras in the freezer.

The steps for making roasted garlic are simple –

  • Slice the tops off your desired number of whole heads of garlic
  • Place the sliced garlic heads on a large piece of foil
  • Drizzle the exposed garlic tops with olive oil
  • Wrap the entire bunch of garlic with the foil and pinch the sides to seal
  • Place in oven and roast for 45 minutes

How to Use Roasted Garlic

You can use roasted garlic in almost recipe that calls for regular garlic. The flavor will be less mellow than raw garlic.

Some great examples include –

  • tossed with roasted vegetables
  • served with grilled or seared meat like chicken or steak

Ingredients

  • 5 heads garlic
  • 1-2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F
  • Slice the tops off the whole heads of garlic
  • Place the garlic heads and sliced tops, face up on a large sheet of aluminum foil
  • Drizzle olive oil all over the garlic
  • Fold the foil up around the garlic, pinching around the edges to seal it closed
  • Place directly on the center rack of the oven and roast for 45 minutes
  • Once done, remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before using

How to Store Roasted Garlic

I find the easiest way to store roasted garlic for later use it to mash it with a spoon, and then measure out into teaspoon increments and place in an ice cube tray.

Place in freezer until set (about 30 minutes) and then remove and store in a sealable, plastic bag.

Then, whenever you need some roasted garlic, you’ll know that each frozen cube amounts to 1 teaspoon of roasted garlic.
