Please note this post was originally posted in 2018 but the recipe has been updated and pictures retaken.

Football and Name Calling

Ever since the hubby began playing Fantasy Football a few years ago, we’ve become those “game day” people. The ones that curl up on the couch on Sundays and feast on yummy food while shouting at our tv.

I’ve been a Bear’s fan ever since I was a little kid (we grew up in Illinois). True story – my sisters and I loved to say the name  “Dick Butkus” because it’s as close to a bad word as we were allowed. I mean picture yourself a 7 year old kid, being able to say “dick” and “butkus” without getting into trouble is pretty darn fun.

Game Day Snacks

Nowadays, I get just as much enjoyment out of the game day snacks as I do the actual games each week. Anything that involves dipping or melted cheese is always a top favorite of mine.

The only trouble with a lot of game day snacks is that they leaving you feeling too full for dinner, bloated or hungry again two hours later.

It’s all about balance and that’s why I was on the hunt for a easy to prepare, healthy game day snack that still tasted delicious and included dipping and cheese.

Loaded Mediterranean Hummus

The answer to my game day prayers – this loaded mediterranean hummus.

It uses this simple Homemade Hummus recipe but then jazzes it up with olives, feta, fresh herbs and spices.

If you don’t have the time to (or just simply don’t want to) make your own hummus, you could also easily use store bought hummus for this recipe. Check out our tips on Buying Store Bought Hummus, including some of our favorite store bought brands.

Simple enough to whip up quickly but fancy enough to impress the neighbors. Plus it’s a much healthier choice than some of the game day alternatives. Hummus is a good source of protein and the toppings add some fiber and a little bit of heart healthy fat to keep you full and satisfied.
