This weekend I came to the realization that my body can just no longer “drop it like it’s hot”.
Sadly, I came to this conclusion when squatting down to try and pick up a barbie left on the ground and realizing I couldn’t make it back up without an assist.
My club-going, twenty year old, former-self would be highly disappointed.
In all honesty, I have a hard time working fitness into my everyday lifestyle. It just always seems like there are so many other items on my to do list.
It wasn’t until I came across this quote, that I decided I had it all wrong.
Instead of trying to incorporate exercising into my own personal time, I needed to focus on making it a family event.
So this weekend we took the kids to the park and I discovered you can actually get a really good workout in while the kids are playing. Using the playground equipment, I was able to work in lunges, squats, leg lifts, pushups and tricep dips.
My daughter thought it was the coolest thing and before I knew it, she wanted to participate in the “exercises”.
The park we went to had a big, grassy hill and we had races up and down the hill until we were all winded (or maybe it was just me) but having a great time.
I probably looked like a fool in front of the other people at the playground but my kids had a great time and got to see that exercising is fun and can a part of normal, everyday activities.
Playing tag, basketball, creating an obstacle course for the whole family, or just taking it to the playground are ways to work fitness into everyday life.
