A delicious mediterranean diet inspired appetizer or snack, these marinated olives and feta cheese are ready in under five minutes.
Heart Healthy Olives
I just love the salty, briny flavor of olives. I always have a jar (or two three) in my fridge.
I can still remember when I visited a local farmer’s market in France and was amazed at the number of olive varieties available for sampling and purchase.
They are a staple of the Mediterranean Diet and pack a heart healthy punch of nutrients. In fact, I love them so much I’ve written about the health benefits of olives before.
Marinated Olives & Feta Cheese
I’ve always loved the marinated olives found at the deli section of the grocery store. However, I recently discovered they are so easy to make at home and a bit cheaper.
I love kalamata and manzanilla olives, so I often have those on hand. Almost any type of olive would work, so you could choose your favorite type for this recipe.
Then simply add some cubed feta cheese, drizzle with olive oil, zest of a lemon and pinch of red pepper flakes. Easy peasy!
This dish makes a great appetizer, accompaniment to a cheese board or just a quick snack.

I have tried different brands of feta and all of them end up crumbling. What brand do you use?
I use Trader Joe’s brand feta. I buy it in block form and haven’t had much of a problem with crumbling. Are you using reduced fat versions? Sometimes that can change the consistency a bit.

Can I make these a day ahead? I am worried about olive oil solidifying.
Hi Karen, thanks so much for your question. Yes, you could make these a day in advance just allow them to come to room temperature before you serve them.
Is this the same medley in publix groceries???
