I love celebrating the start of the weekend with Friday Pizza Night! It’s easy, fun and a family favorite. Recently, I decided to improve our weekly pizza night ritual by making the pizza crust from scratch, using Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Yeast.
Since really focusing on living a more Mediterranean-inspired lifestyle, my family and I have enjoyed cooking more things from scratch that we ordinarily would have bought the pre-made version of. We are quickly discovering that you just can’t beat that homemade taste, especially when it comes to pizza.

In today’s world where most of the day is centered around doing things as “quickly” as possible, I love when I am able to take my time in the kitchen. This is especially true when I’m cooking with my family. It’s fun to slow down and savor the memories made from simple moments like cooking together, especially with my two little kids.

How to Make Your Own Pizza Dough
This 30-minute homemade pizza crust recipe was the base of this Mediterranean Style Pizza. Trust me when I say that it could not be easier to make this pizza dough.
Tips for Using Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Yeast –
Be sure to follow the simple instructions on the back of the packet of yeast.
Make sure that your yeast packet is not expired. This is often the main reason why yeast doesn’t “rise”.
The water you use to mix with the yeast should be lukewarm (120-130 degrees F). If the water is too hot, it will kill the yeast. Use a thermometer to check the temperature.
Simple Steps for Making Homemade Pizza Dough
Mix the dry ingredients together in a large bowl (flour, yeast, sugar, salt).
Add the warm water (120-130 degrees F) and oil, stir to combine.
Slowly add additional flour until a soft, sticky dough forms.
Turn out onto a floured surface.
Kneed the dough until it becomes elastic and smooth.
Form into a ball and allow to rise for just 10 minutes.
Use a rolling pin to form a large, 12″ pizza.
Making it Mediterranean Style
The world is definitely your oyster when it comes to what you want to put on top of your pizza.
I chose this Mediterranean inspired pizza by topping the pizza with hummus in place of traditional pizza sauce. It gave the pizza such a creamy texture and flavor. Then I topped it off with slices of fresh mozzarella, artichoke hearts, cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, sliced red bell pepper and garnished it all with fresh basil once it was done cooking.
The end result was a flavor packed, veggie filled pizza where the star was definitely the homemade crust! The taste is just second to none, but more than that, it was such a joy to cook from scratch with my little ones and then see their faces when they shared what we made at the dinner table.
