Weekly Round Up – Healthy Hits & Misses

healthy

A weekly summary of  this week’s healthy hits & misses and what I’m looking forward to next week.

It’s been a loooooong week! Partially because last weekend Dan & I got back from a quick weekend trip to Puerta Vallarta (work trip for dan, fun trip for me) and the kids were a little out of whack after getting back. Truthfully I think they had so much fun with their Grandma that they were sad to have us boring old parents back.

We got back home Sunday night and then poor Dan had to leave again Monday morning and won’t be back until tomorrow…6 whole days solo for me! It was a trying week for sure…a lot of sleepless nights for the kids, a meltdown at swim lessons, all combined with feeling less than stellar made for a sluggish week.

I’ve come to realize that I’m definitely a stress and boredom junk food eater. I had the best of intentions of eating well all week, I even made a meal plan for the week (even though it was only me and the kids) and bought most of the groceries I need on Monday to remain on the right track all week. Then everything sort of went south, I had no healthy options pre-cooked and ready to go, so I just ate crappy all week. Finishing off the kid’s Mac & Cheese, eating an entire batch of crescent rolls for dinner and lots of ice cream. It wasn’t pretty.

Last night I finally decided my body was telling me in many ways that eating like that just won’t do…my skin started breaking out, my stomach hurt, I had no patience and I just felt sluggish all week. It’s amazing how if you listen to your body, you’ll figure out really quick what it likes and what it doesn’t.

So, I started fresh today. I woke up and made breakfast (leftover steak with 2 eggs and 1/2 avocado) and really sat down to enjoy it with the kids. I actually took time to put on makeup, it’s amazing what a little lipstick will do for your mood.

Things I’m looking forward to….

 • Celebrating Dan’s birthday when he gets home tomorrow
 • Going to the VW Car Show in Kelley Park on Sunday with the kids (we go every year)
 • I signed up for the 8 Week Tone It Up Bikini Challenge and can’t wait to start working out regularly
 • Editing some photos for some blog posts next week that I’m really excited to share, including an amazing recipe for Garlic & Red Pepper Edamame

Hope you all have a great weekend. Anyone have any fun plans?
