Almost halfway through our 30 days without alcohol and we are sharing some of our Dry January favorites. Including what we like to drink in the evening while relaxing, celebratory drinks and more.
Figuring Out What to Drink
Sometimes the trickiest part about giving up alcohol (whether it for Dry January, pregnancy, or just cutting back) can be figuring out what else to drink.
Obviously there is water, coffee, soda, sparkling water, juice and all the other standard beverages. However, sometimes situations call for something a little different than the norm.
As we talked about in this Why We are Participating in Dry January (Again) post, we talked about the fact that sometimes there are rituals associated with alcohol that we miss the most during this month. For us personally, those include –
- unwinding after a long week with a glass of wine
- celebrating birthday, anniversaries, special occasions with a cocktail at dinner
- wine tasting on the weekend
For situations like this, finding something else to drink when you are drinking can help make the transition easier.
Our Favorite and Easiest Mocktail
We call this a mocktail but it’s honestly the easiest drink there is to make. Take some sparkling water, 100% pomegranate juice and a little fresh lime and call it a day. This is our go to drink on weekends or after a long day when we are ready to relax.
Our tip – enjoy it out of a fancy glass to make it seem more festive than regular old sparkling water. We love using these Coupe Glasses or even a white wine glass for this drink. It makes it seem more fancy than it is and sometimes that’s all you need.
Hot Tea for Relaxing
We have become such fans of drinking hot tea in the evenings. It’s relaxing and perfect when it’s cold and dreary outside. Plus there are so many amazing tea flavors available at the store that it’s fun to try new varieties.
Our current favorites include –
- Elderberry Blackberry by Tazo (available only at Target or online)
- Organic Baked Cinnamon Apple by Tazo (this is Dan’s favorite)
- Green Ginger by Tazo (Brynn’s favorite)
- Matcha Mate Grapefruit by Tazo
Zero Proof Beverages
We were introduced to Ritual Zero Proof drink mixers last year during Dry January. We are big fans of their Zero Proof Whiskey Alternative to make Whiskey Sour Mocktail.
There are so many of these types of beverages on the market now for people that like the flavor of alcohol/mixed drinks but don’t want the actual alcohol. Ritual also has a tequila alternative, which we’ve tried and enjoyed as well.
