This Sweet & Spicy Jalapeño Homemade Cranberry Sauce recipe is the perfect mediterranean diet inspired side dish for your holiday table.
Canned Cranberry
I have always been a huge fan of cranberry sauce. Aside from the warm rolls dripping with melted butter, cranberry sauce is probably one of my favorite foods on Thanksgiving.
As a kid, I loved the tart and sweet sauce that came from a can.
That is, until I tasted a homemade cranberry sauce recipe and realized what I had been missing!
Sweet and Spicy
The first time I made this recipe I used way too many jalapeños and couldn’t feel my taste buds for a week!
Needless to say I had to tone down the spicy level and found the perfect ratio of tart cranberries, a touch of sweetness and a little spice.
I like the tartness of cranberries, so I didn’t add much sweetener. If you prefer your cranberry sauce a touch less tart, feel free to add a bit more honey.
Frozen Cranberries – A Pantry Staple
I only recently discovered the beauty of frozen cranberries! Up until then, I only thought cranberries were available fresh and around thanksgiving only.
Then a friend told me about frozen cranberries (available year round) and I felt like I had won the lottery.
Now I tend to have a bag of frozen cranberries in my freezer at all times. They go great in smoothies and last minute additions to sauces and salads.
