This homemade tzatziki sauce is a delicious blend of yogurt, cucumbers, garlic, dill and lemon juice. A mediterranean diet staple, it’s simple to make and packed with fresh, real ingredients.
Striving for Real Ingredients
A few weeks ago, I discovered that the tzatziki sauce I typically buy from Trader Joe’s has a lot of ingredients added that aren’t real food. Things like modified food starch, titanium dioxide and carrageenan (more to come on this).
One of the principles of the Mediterranean Diet that I really value is trying to eat real ingredients and real food whenever possible.
While I still love Trader Joe’s, as evidenced by this list of things I always buy there, their tzatziki sauce is off my shopping list.
While I did find another store bought brand I like (I’ll be sharing later this week), I discovered how easy it is to make homemade tzatziki sauce!
Making Tzatziki Sauce
With just a handful of ingredients, you can make your own delicious, creamy tzatziki sauce made with real, simple ingredients.
A few tips for getting a really creamy texture and great flavor –
- After grating your cucumbers, allow them to drain for a few minutes in a colander
- You always want to squeeze out any additional water with paper towel to avoid getting a watery sauce
- Finely mince or grate your garlic to ensure even flavor throughout
- Adjust the seasonings to your tastes
- I like using full fat greek yogurt for the creamiest taste and best flavor
