These Mini Salmon Sliders are an easy and fun way to introduce fish and seafood to kids and create a more mediterranean diet inspired lifestyle at home.
Kid Friendly Seafood
I shared this Kid Friendly Tuna Melt recipe a few weeks ago and many of you asked for more ways to introduce fish to kids.
From personal experience with my own daughter, I have to keep the dishes simple when she is trying something new. I also find it helps to serve fish in a way they are familiar with eating. For example, the tuna melts are similar to a grilled cheese sandwich.
Introducing Salmon to Kids
It’s funny because when my daughter was little, she loved salmon! We used to go to a restaurant near our house and I always ordered their salmon burger. I’d give her a few bites and she would end up eating about 1/2 of my burger.
Then all the sudden one day she wouldn’t touch salmon with a ten foot pole. We gave it a break but just recently I decided to try it again.
My husband and I love salmon and it’s a great source of protein and Omega 3 fatty acids. So incorporating it into our family’s meals in a goal of mine.
Mini Salmon Sliders Recipe
This recipe was such a huge hit with my daughter. It was easy to prepare and only took a few ingredients.
I think the kicker was the mini burger buns, which I found at Trader Joe’s. Everything is just more fun when it’s in miniature size. You could also use regular size burger buns or even small sized dinner rolls.
Kid Friendly Mini Salmon Sliders
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 8 oz salmon filets I used two 4oz salmon filets to create 4 mini sliders
- salt and pepper to taste
- 4 mini burger buns or small dinner rolls
- 1 cup micro greens or leafy green/lettuce of your choice
- 1 cup greek yogurt, plain
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium heat on the stove
- Season salmon lightly with salt and pepper (omit if you don't like salt or pepper)
- Place salmon in the pan and cook for about 4 minutes on each side, until fish is cooked through
- Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before cutting each filet in half. So that you have 4 servings of salmon, to create 4 mini sliders
- On each mini burger bun (or small dinner roll), place 1/4 cp of microgreens (or lettuce of your choice) on bottom, top with salmon and finish with 1/4 cup greek yogurt on top.
Love these salom sliders. My dauhter won’t eat a salmon fillet but would happily eat them if its a burger. Go figure! LOL
put anything as a burger and almost any kid will eat it!
I think the kids just get bored with eating the same thing again and again and want some change.
Salmon is already amazing, but to add it into a slider is even more amazing! My kids would live this, and it would make a great weeknight meal!
mine do too.
