This Greek Lettuce Salad is the perfect summer dish because it’s easy to make and features minimal ingredients. It’s light, refreshing and goes perfectly with lunch or dinner. Especially on those summer days when it’s just too hot to cook.

Prasini Salad versus Maroulosalata

I try to research the history and origin whenever I share a somewhat traditional Mediterranean recipe. This recipe was hard to nail down though because it seems to be called two different things, depending on who you ask.

Prasini Salad

At a local Greek restaurant, the owner lists a similar dish as Prasini Salad. I recognized the name as we enjoyed this a few times on a previous trip to Greece. Prasini translates in Greek to mean “green”. So Prasini Salad = Green Salad.

Maroulosalata

However, when I asked a friend of mine (who is from Greece), he said that to him it’s known as Maroulosalata. Which translates out to mean = Lettuce Salad.

Greek Lettuce Salad with Scallions and Dill

Both salads appear to be very similar, just changing a bit depending on who is making it. Which honestly happens a lot with food and dishes and is something I love about cooking…taking a recipe and putting your own touches on the finished dish.

The ingredients include –

  • finely chopped/shredded romaine lettuce
  • scallions
  • fresh dill
  • lemon
  • feta
  • olive oil
  • salt and pepper

Once you have the ingredients, it’s as simple and adding them to a big bowl and tossing all together.

One tip – really try to chop the lettuce as thinly as possible. Every time I’ve had this dish, the salad is almost shredded, rather than bigger pieces.
