A weekly series where we share our family’s actual Mediterranean diet meal plan. The goal is to simply share meal and recipe ideas.

We share our family’s weekly Mediterranean diet meal plan simply for meal ideas and recipe inspiration for anyone else looking for suggestions. Please keep in mind that every family and person is different and this is just what works for us.

We’ve saved all our previous weekly meal plans in one convenient location – Weekly Mediterranean Diet Meal Plans.

How We Meal Plan

We go more in depth on how we go about planning meals in this post – Meal Planning Guide but just to quickly summarize –

  • Breakfast is usually pretty standard in our house so I don’t include it on our meal plan list
  • My kids either bring a bagged lunch or buy hot lunch at school so I only meal plan for my lunch (and my husband if he is working from home that day)
  • I include notes on some days to indicate if the meal is something we have to make quickly, on the go, etc. This really helps when it comes to planning meals and buying food to know our schedule in advance.
  • On Saturdays we typically eat leftovers and eat out for lunch or dinner. I indicate that on the meal plan each week but just in case you were wondering

This Week’s Mediterranean Diet Meal Plan

This week was all about trying to budget our groceries and use up a lot of random ingredients we had already at home.

On Saturday, I had a wonderful lunch at a friend’s house. She made a gorgeous salad with had grilled chicken and then had a yummy tortellini dish. It was delicious and so nice to just hang out and eat together! Our husbands and kids returned from a Monster Truck show later that afternoon and we all had so much fun we ordered pizza and spent the night. Love when plans just spontaneously happen.

What the Kids Ate

Since the kids are back in school, the lunches listed about were just for myself and my husband (we both work from home). For dinner, we all eat the same meal typically. I’ll modify some dishes for them (ie my son doesn’t eat fish so on the nights we have fish I sub in chicken for him).

Things We’ve Been Loving Lately

Each week we also try to share a few items or products that we’ve been loving lately. This week, it was all about sauce! A great sauce can make such a huge impact on a dish.

Sauces we used this week –

  1. Trader Joe’s Chimichurri
    • we use this on almost everything including sweet potatoes, hard boiled eggs and chicken
  2. Thai Coconut Lime Sauce from Kevin’s Natural Foods
    • I recently competed in a recipe challenge where I used this sauce to create these Thai Style Coconut Chicken Tacos
    • I found that they sell just the sauce packets on their own and used it on roasted chicken that I served with steamed rice and sautéed bell peppers
    • It’s so so good!
